THREE BEARKATS MAKE ALL-DISTRICT 1-3A FIRST TEAM
Bossier seniors Jake Gray, Rodney Bonds and Lane Holt have been named to the All-District 1-3A baseball first team.
Gray, a pitcher and infielder, batted .533 with 28 RBIs and 14 extra-base hits. He finished with 49 hits, a school single-season record.
Bonds played pitcher, shortstop and outfielder. He batted .462 with 27 RBIs and 16 extra-base hits. He set the single-season school record with 36 stolen bases. Holt, a pitcher and outfielder, batted .302 with 16 RBIs.
Five Bearkats made second team — junior catcher Zach McKnight, junior first baseman Kahlil Bolden, junior second baseman Alex Galvan, junior third baseman Hunter Courtney and senior outfielder Lamikus Duncan.
Austin Pinnick of district champion North DeSoto was named MVP.
NSU SOFTBALL TEAM READY FOR REGIONAL
BATON ROUGE — The third-seeded Northwestern State softball team opens the 2013 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional tournament hosted by LSU, against second-seeded Louisiana-Lafayette at 3 p.m. today at Tiger Park.
The Lady Demons (40-13) earned the program’s fourth trip to the tournament after defeating Sam Houston State in a 5-4 nail-biter in the Southland Conference tournament championship on Saturday. Despite falling 7-4 to Western Kentucky in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, the Ragin’ Cajuns (43-13) finished the season ranked No. 17 in the Ratings Percentage Index.
NSU and Louisiana-Lafayette have faced eight common opponents this season, including Western Kentucky, Mississippi State and Louisiana Tech.
Against WKU, the Lady Demons prevailed with the 5-3 win.
NSU came out on top of Mississippi State 10-5, while the Ragin’ Cajuns defeated the Bulldogs 9-1.
Junior Tara McKenney leads NSU from the plate, hitting .369 with 69 hits, including a team-high seven triples, giving her a spot in the individual season record book for the Lady Demons, just three triples behind Annie Johnson’s 2002 record. McKenney also sits sixth in hits and fifth in runs scored.

CAMP SET FOR
MAY 29-31
The Airline High School
Football Camp will be held May
29-31 at Airline Stadium.
Airline head coach Bo Meeks
will act as director with Airline
assistant coaches and players
acting as instructors.
The camp is for children going
into grades 3-8. It will run from
8-11:30 a.m. each day.
Cost is $100 per camper and
includes instruction, insurance,
T-shirt and lunch each day.
AIRLINE FRESHMEN BASEBALL TRYOUTS SET FOR JUNE 2-3
Freshmen baseball tryouts at Airline are set for June 2-3 at the Airline baseball complex from 9 a.m. to noon each day.
Players must bring a bat, glove, spikes and turfs. Catching gear will be provided.
