BOSSIER CITY - Funeral services for Barry Alan Vowell, 64, will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at First Baptist Bossier. Officiating will be Rev. Kenny Joyner pastor of First Baptist Greenwood. Committal services will be at 3:30 p.m. at Cotton Valley Cemetery, Cotton Valley, LA. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2013 at First Baptist Bossier.
Barry was born March 19, 1948 in Cotton Valley and died February 28, 2013 in Bossier City. He was a long-time band director at Benton, Bossier and Airline High Schools. He was a member of First Baptist Bossier, the LA Bandmasters Association, LA Music Educators Association, Phi Beta Mu, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He retired as a First Sergeant from the LA National Guard's 156th Army Band, after 25 years of service.
Barry is survived by his wife, Cheryl Coker Vowell; sons, Andrew Clayton Vowell and Kenneth Alan Vowell, all of Bossier City; daughter, Jennifer Vowell Steadman and husband, James of Humble, TX; brother, Kenneth Vowell and wife Maxine of Sunset, TX; grandchildren, Haley and Spencer Steadman and aunt, Sheryl Reynolds of Cotton Valley.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Barry Vowell Bossier Parish Bands Fund at Bossier Federal Credit Union.
Honoring Barry as pallbearers will be Bill Causey, Jr., Ed Farabough, Dr. Jeff Mathews, Evan McCormick, Terrel Goodwin and Chad Causey.
