Cope, Rusheon sweep; Greenacres, Benton split games

cope7th1The Cope Cougars and Rusheon Rams swept their opponents in middle school boys basketball action Monday evening.

Cope downed Elm Grove 38-26 in the seventh-grade game and 46-23 in the eighth-grade game.

Rusheon defeated Haughton 53-26 in the seventh-grade game and 51-22 in the eighth-grade game.

The Greenacres Mustangs and Benton Tigers split games. The Tigers won the seventh-grade game, and the Mustangs won the eighth 43-28.

Rusheon and Greenacres continue to set the pace in the eighth-grade district with 5-1 records. Cope is a game back at 4-2.

Rusheon is alone atop the seventh-grade standings at 6-0. Cope is second at 5-1 followed by Benton at 4-2.

At Haughton, Randy Combs and Keldrick Carper tossed in 10 points each to lead the Rusheon eighth-graders. Keimun Daniels and Mike Taylor combined for 13.

Colton McLain topped Haughton with 14 points.

Rusheon’s Keyshawn Jones had the top scoring performance in the parish this season among seventh-graders with 30. He also had 14 rebounds and seven steals.

Tyler Andrews scored five points and had six assists.

Malcolm Hall led Haughton with 10 points. Harrison Voigt added six.

At Benton, Noah Hildebrand scored 11 points and Harvey Calhoun had eight to lead the Mustangs eighth-graders.cope8th3

Chris Davenport and Josh James scored seven each, and Anthony Mulrenin chipped in with six.

Kendall Brown paced Greenacres’ seventh-grade team with 14 points. David Maxey added nine.

At Cope, Trenton Ivy had 12 points, four rebounds and four assists to lead the Cougars seventh-graders.

Quillen Dixon added 10 points. Jacob Bowden made four of six free throws in the fourth quarter.

Cameron Davis scored five points and grabbed four rebounds.

Knije Harrison topped Elm Grove with 14 points.

KJ Bilbo had 16 points, 10 rebounds and three steals to lead the Cope eighth-graders. Tybren Wimberly had 10 points and four rebounds.

Drew Brewster had five rebounds and Michael Norris had four. Jonathon Brandon had three assists.

Malcolm Banks led Elm Grove with 12 points.
