Bearkats, Lions post district victories
Hayden Hildebrand and Demetrius Early led the Airline Vikings to a 69-62 victory over the Parkway Panthers in a District 1-5A boys basketball game Friday night at Parkway.
Hildebrand scored 14 of his 20 points in the first half as Airline built a 35-23 halftime lead.
Early scored 19 points. He was 10 of 11 from the free throw line, including 7 of 8 in the fourth quarter as the Vikings held off Parkway.
The Panthers made eight 3-pointers in the second half, including a couple late in the third quarter, to cut the Vikings’ lead to 50-43.
Airline (7-15, 3-4) extended the lead to 11 points and it stayed in double digits much of the quarter.
But Parkway battled back and got within five with a minute left. The Panthers had a chance to cut it to three but missed a contested shot inside. Parkway got the rebound but turned it over on a traveling violation.
Trevon Rogers hit a 3-pointer with 5.4 seconds left to cut the lead to three, but Parkway was called for a intentional foul on the inbounds play.
Chris Yates hit four 3-pointers and led Parkway (6-15, 1-6) with 14 points. Freshman Keondre Wudtee added 11.
Elsewhere, the Bossier Bearkats and the Louisiana New Tech at Plain Dealing Lions closed in on district championships with victories.
Bossier, the No. 1 ranked team in the state in Class 3A, routed North DeSoto 77-31 in Stonewall.
Bossier (25-3. 4-0 District 1-3A) can clinch a share of its fifth straight district title with a victory at Loyola Tuesday.
Tevin Robertson scored 18 points, Breon Morris 15 and Rashard Owens 13 to lead the Bearkats.
New Tech knocked off Ringgold 64-51 in a District 1-1A game in Plain Dealing.
The Lions (9-10, 4-0) clinched a share of their second straight district title.
Also Tuesday, Haughton fell to Byrd 71-59 in District 1-5A action.
