The Bossier girls pulled off a big upset over Green Oaks Wednesday night, and the Bossier boys avoided one.
The Lady Kats routed the eighth-ranked Lady Giants 60-37 at Bossier, and the Kats held on for a 40-39 victory over the Giants.
The Bossier girls improved to 13-12 overall and 2-1 in District 1-3A. The Lady Kats are in a three-way tie for first with Green Oaks and Loyola after the first half of district play.
“That was a big one for us,” first-year Bossier head coach J.C. Dickey said.
The Bossier boys, ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 3A, improved to 24-3 overall and sit alone atop the district standings at 3-0. Green Oaks, 12-11 overall, is second at 2-1.
Deniera McGlothan came up big for the Lady Kats. She had a triple-double with 22 points, 15 rebounds and 11 blocked shots.
Bossier also got a boost from Tara Woods, who has been slowed by an injury this season.
Woods, a senior, scored 10 points and helped hold Lady Giants standout Princess Davis to just three on Senior Night.
Tiffany Lynn (16 points) and Khobi McDaniel (11) also played big roles in the win.
Lynn scored 10 points in the first half, and McDaniel had nine in the fourth quarter.
The Bossier boys’ game against Green Oaks was tight all the way.
The Bearkats and the Giants were tied at 30 going into the fourth quarter.
Bossier’s Rashard Owens hit a big 3-pointer to start the fourth.
Devonte Hall’s 3-pointer followed by a Breon Morris basket in the lane helped the Bearkats build a 38-32 lead with 4:53 left in the game.
The Bearkats hurt themselves down the stretch by missing six straight free throws, including the front ends of 1-and-1 situations twice.
Green Oaks couldn’t take advantage though. The Giants hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the final margin.
Morris led Bossier with 11 points. Rashard Owens, Hall and Tevin Robertson scored nine apiece.
Elsewhere, the Parkway boys fell to host Southwood 84-80 in overtime in District 1-5A action.
The Panthers (6-14, 1-5) rallied from a 6-point deficit after three quarters to send it into overtime tied at 72.
Brodrick Jefferson led Parkway with 31 points. Chris Yates added 17, Rob Harper 12 and Keondre Wudtee 11.
The Parkway girls fell to the No. 1 ranked Lady Cowboys 68-31.
Ralisia Hargrove led Parkway with 12 points.
