Overall crime decreased in Bossier City, again
The popular notion is that Bossier City is a safe place to live, and the stats back it up.
The total number of crimes decreased four percent in Bossier City in 2012 compared to 2011 according to statistics released Wednesday by the Bossier City Police Department.
This marks the sixth consecutive year that the total number of reported crimes dropped in Bossier City.
“This reduction in crime is due to the hard work of the men and women of the Bossier City Police Department combined with a strong relationship that our residents have with our department,” said Chief Shane McWilliams. “These numbers are encouraging and the Bossier City Police Department continues to remain focused on its main objective of keeping crime at a minimum for its citizens.”
In 2012 there were a total of 10,098 crimes reported to the Bossier City Police Department. That figure is lower than the 10,534 crimes reported in 2011.
Mayor Lorenz Walker commends the police department for the reduction in crime.
“Public safety is a key issue in gauging a city’s quality of life,” he said. “These lower crime figures are a testament to the continuing effort by our law enforcement officers to keep Bossier City safe.”
McWilliams said Bossier City also experienced a decrease in the number of violent crimes including murder, rape, armed robbery and aggravated assault in 2012 compared to the previous year.
One additional burglary was reported in 2012 compared to 2011, while theft increased by about eight percent in 2012.
