The Parkway Panthers broke open a close game in the third quarter and went on to defeat the Haughton Buccaneers 70-54 in a District 1-5A boys basketball game Friday night at Haughton.
The Panthers led by three at the half and then outscored the Bucs 22-9 in the third quarter.
Chris Yates hit two big 3-pointers and scored 10 of his 13 points in the quarter. Brodrick Jefferson scored eight of his game-high 18 points.
Rob Harper added 11 points for the Panthers (6-11, 1-2).
Tyler Grigsby led Haughton (7-12, 1-2) with 25 points. P.J. Douglas had 10.
Elsewhere in District 1-5A, the Airline Vikings fell to Captain Shreve 75-59 at Shreve.
In District 1-4A, Benton dropped a 61-49 decision at Northwood.
The Louisiana New Tech at Plain Dealing Lions opened defense of their District 1-1A championship with a 57-51 victory over homestanding Ringgold.
In a non-district game, the Bossier Bearkats defeated Winnfield 59-45 in a battle of state-ranked teams at Bossier.
At Shreve, the Gators scored the final seven points of the first half to take a 35-26 lead.
The Vikings were unable to make a run in the second half.
Hayden Hildebrand led Airline (5-13, 1-2) with 24 points, and Andrew Latson had 14.
Shreve (12-13, 3-0) is the only 1-5A team without a loss.
Byrd, which defeated Southwood 88-86 in overtime, is 2-1. Southwood is 1-2.
Bossier, the No. 1 ranked team in Class 3A, improved to 21-3 with the win over Class 2A No. 5 Winnfield (19-5).
Tevin Robertson led the Bearkats (21-3) with 16 points. Devonte Hall and Rashard Owens scored 12 each, and Deorvion Robinson had 11.
Benton dropped to 7-13 overall and 0-3 in district with its loss to Northwood.
New Tech improved to 6-10 with its win over Ringgold.
