EX-BOSSIER STAR WEST HELPS NSU BEAT LA. TECH

NATCHITOCHES — Freshmen guard Jalan West, a former Bossier High standout, scored 11 points and had eight assists to help the Northwestern State Demons defeat the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 89-83 Tuesday night at Prather Coliseum.

Shamir Davis’ game-high 20 points led five Northwestern State double-digit scorers.

The Demons (4-3) prevailed despite 50 percent free throw aim, including missing 10 of their first 13 after halftime. While snapping a three-game losing skid to LSU, Texas A&M and Oklahoma, they closed by making nine of their last 13, complementing their 55 percent field goal aim in the contest.

The Bulldogs (7-2) had a seven-game win streak ended as they struggled to 34.5 percent field goal aim. They were bidding for their best string of consecutive wins since 1985-86 when future Basketball Hall of Famer Karl Malone was playing for Louisiana Tech.

Gary Roberson matched his career high with 14 points for the Demons, who picked up 13 points and 10 rebounds from DeQuan Hicks, and 11 points apiece from Brison White and West. James Hulbin snagged 12 rebounds as the Demons and Bulldogs each finished with 50.

Raheem Appleby and Kenneth Smith shared the scoring lead for Louisiana Tech with 17 apiece, while Alex Hamilton added 16. Michale Kyser grabbed a game-best 17 rebounds, 10 on the offensive end. Smith recorded game highs of nine assists and four steals.

BOSSIER, PARKWAY POST SUB-VARSITY HOOPS VICTORIES

The Bossier and Parkway boys won freshmen and junior varsity games Monday.

Bossier defeated Minden 31-22 in the freshmen game and 50-30 in the JV game. Parkway downed Benton 58-41 in the freshmen game and 51-37 in the JV game.

Dontavious Washington led the Bossier freshmen with 13 points, and Keldrick Owens had eight. Malik Dunn topped the JV with 16 points and Jericho Moss had eight.

Anthony Jenkins scored 15 points and Anthony Swift 12 to lead the Parkway freshmen. Trevon Rogers led the JV team with 10 points, and Gabe Decuir added nine.

TEXAS A&M CRUSHES LADY TECHSTERS

COLLEGE STATION, Texas —The Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters made only 1-of-19 shots from the field in the first half in a 77-26 loss to Texas A&M Tuesday night.

The Aggies forced 22 Lady Techster turnovers and held Tech to 9-of-54 shooting on the night. The 26-point effort by Louisiana Tech was the lowest against Texas A&M since McNeese State scored 26 points against the Aggies in Nov. 2006.

The Aggies took control of the game early scoring the first 13 points of the contest, keeping Louisiana Tech from scoring until 12:28 remaining in the first half after missing their first 10 shot attempts.

Like the rest of the Techsters, former parish prep standouts Lulu Perry and Jasmine Bryant struggled. Perry scored two points and Bryant had three.

WAC HONORS TECH’S CAMERON, DIXON

Louisiana Tech quarterback Colby Cameron has been named the WAC Offensive Player of the Year, and running back Kenneth Dixon has been named Freshmen of the Year.
Cameron passed for 4,147 yards and 31 touchdowns with just five interceptions. Dixon rushed for 1,194 yards and scored 27 TDs.
