Prep soccer roundup: Airline boys take Bossier tournament title

airlinesoccer2The Airline Vikings routed the West Monroe Rebels 5-0 in the championship game of the Bossier Soccer Invitational tournament Saturday night at Tinsley Park.

The Vikings, ranked No. 8 in the latest Louisiana Soccer Coaches Association Division I poll, improved to 12-1.

Airline faces defending champion Parkway tonight in a key District 1-I game at 6 at Tinsley Park.

Airline’s Chris Galvin scored two goals against West Monroe. Patrick Laurent, Abdullah Rayyan and Robert Spraggins had one apiece. Galvin, Laurent and Matt Hanisee had assists.
The Vikings defeated Ruston 2-1 in pool play Saturday morning. The teams met again in the semifinals Saturday evening with Airline coming out on top 4-0.

Laurent scored two goals in the semifinal game. Esteban Chornet-Baides  and Chris Galvin had one apiece. Rayyan had two assists and Scott Bowers had one.

Hanisee scored twice in the 2-1 win, and Galvin had an assist.

Friday, Airline got past Haughton 2-0. Galvin and  Laurent scored one goal each. Bowers and Hanisee had assists.

Haughton also defeated North DeSoto 3-0 and lost to Ruston 2-0.

Benton defeated Ouachita 4-1 and lost to Bossier 4-3 and West Monroe 3-1.

Dillion Rogers had a hat trick for the Tigers against Ouachita. Ryan Mutchler had one goal and two assists. Ethan Parks had one assist. Goalkeeper Mitchell Matthews had six saves.

Joseph Perrett scored one goal and had two assists against Bossier.

Rogers and Ethan Whitehead scored one goal apiece, and Mutchler had an assist. Matthews had six saves.

Bossier scored the winning goal in injury time with 10 seconds left in the game.

Rogers had a goal and Matthews had eight saves in the loss to West Monroe.

Bossier also defeated Southwood 2-0 and lost to West Monroe 1-0.

Parkway went 2-1-1 in the tournament, defeating Southwood 3-0 and Ouachita 4-0 and losing to West Monroe 1-0 in the semifinals after tying the Rebels 0-0 earlier.  

In the Bossier tournament girls’ division, Bossier defeated Southwood 5-0 and lost to West Ouachita 7-0 and the Byrd JV Gold 3-0.

Jackie Morales had a hat trick against Southwood, and Ashley Galvan scored twice. Stephanie Ortega had three assists and Ashley Luna and Alyssa Tuggle had one each.

Tuggle had 17 saves against Byrd and 19 against West Ouachita.

Benton went 2-2, defeating North DeSoto 6-0 and North Caddo 8-0 and losing to Ouachita 2-1 and West Ouachita 7-0.

West Ouachita won the tournament with a 6-1 victory over the Byrd JV Gold.

The Airline girls defeated Captain Shreve 3-0 Friday and Ruston 2-0 Saturday in the Gator Cup.

The Lady Vikings fell to West Monroe 3-2 in the semifinals Saturday.

Mandy Sparkman had a goal and an assist against Shreve. Rebecca Shumate and Ashley Faith each scored a goal. Madi Walter and Tiffany Vogle had assists.

Abby Booker and Shumate scored goals against Ruston, while Sparkman and Melissa Beard had assists.

Madi Walter and Anna Walter scored Airline’s goals against West Monroe.

Parkway reached the finals of the Gator Cup before losing to West Monroe 2-0. The Lady Panthers also defeated Ruston 1-0 and Captain Shreve 3-0 and tied West Monroe 0-0.
The Airline JV defeated Parkway 1-0 Friday on a goal by Amina Yurdagul. Emma Espino had the assist.
The Lady Vikings also defeated the Parkway Black JV 3-1 Saturday before losing to West Monroe 2-0 in the semifinals.
Yurdagul, Kaitlyn Spearman and Sam Maiette scored goals against Parkway Black.
