Before you buy that special woman in your life a spa gift card this Christmas, set your sights a little higher. Doesn’t the woman who works so hard, worries so much and wishes you so many good things deserve a spa experience every day? Now she can right in her own bathroom.
Surprise her with a bathroom makeover this holiday season, and she will appreciate you every single day.
Maybe she prefers a long, nightly soak in a fancy whirlpool tub. But who has time?
This Christmas, give the love of your life the gift of ultimate luxury: a stand-up whirlpool experience — in her shower.
Here’s how: Have your remodeler install an extra showerhead, and make it a large-faced “rain-can” model. Add a few wall- or ceiling-mounted sprays to pump steamy water onto her aching back after a hard day. She’ll never want to get out.
She’ll appreciate the addition of a hand-held spray wand which can double as a handy, clean-up tool after her shower.
Look for multi-function, overhead showerheads and wall-mounted sprays that will gently massage, forcefully pulsate or fall like a rain shower.
You can add one or many, depending on your budget. Even one spray or extra showerhead will make her feel pampered.
Replace your dated, brass fixtures with soft showerheads, sprays and a coordinating faucet in a warm, oil-rubbed bronze or brushed nickel finish.
Wrap it all up in easy-to-clean shower walls newly tiled in spa-like colors. Compliment the colors on a vanity countertop of granite, quartz or marble, and pick out new sink faucets that match her stylish shower fixtures. Ask your remodeler to help coordinate the selections and finishes. That will make your job seem less overwhelming.
While updating the shower, tub and vanities, don’t forget the toilet. Select a toilet that’s about the height of a chair—a bit higher than a standard toilet but much more comfortable, especially for anyone who’s getting a little older. For added touch, find a flusher handle in the same finish as the other bathroom fixtures.
Bathroom upgrades don’t always come cheap, but they do come with a bonus: Newer fixtures use way less water than older models, so they’ll help your special someone do as much for the environment as her Christmas gift will do for her stress level.
In fact, the newest toilets are ultra low-flow and come in flow-enhancing shapes with powerful flushes that use less water yet leave the bowl cleaner. Look for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s new WaterSense label, which appears on toilets that use at least 20 percent less water than standard 1.6-gallon toilets.
You and your better half can feel good about a Christmas gift that takes her troubles away without troubling the environment. Not to mention, you get to enjoy this new space as well.
