The Airline Vikings, Benton Tigers and Bossier Bearkats posted district boys soccer victories Monday.
Airline defeated Byrd 5-0 in a District 1, Division I game at Lee Hedges Stadium. Benton downed Northwood 7-0 in a District 1-II game at Tinsley Park.
Both of those games were called because of rain and lightning but deemed official because of the lopsided scores.
Bossier got past North DeSoto 2-0 in a District I-III game at Tinsley. The game was twice delayed by rain and lightning before being completed.
In a District 1-I opener started Monday and completed Tuesday at Cargill, defending champion Parkway fell to Caddo Magnet 3-1.
In a girls District 1-I game, Haughton defeated Southwood 4-0 at Tinsley.
At Lee Hedges, Airline dominated Byrd from the outset.
The Vikings scored their first goal on a header eight minutes into the game and had three by the 22-minute mark.
David Espino, Esteban Cornet-Baides, Will Coyer, Matt Hanisee and Abdullah Rayyan all scored goals for Airline. Espino had two assists.
Airline improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in district. The Vikings are ranked No. 8 in Division I in the latest Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches’ Association poll. Byrd dropped to 0-2 overall and in district.
At Tinsley, Ethan Parks scored two goals to lead Benton.
Dillon Rogers, Ethan Whitehead and Ryan Mutchler had one goal and one assist apiece. Daniel Valcho and Austin Simmons scored one goal each.
Will Sainguinetti, Cade Stephenson and Austin Quijas had assists.
Goalkeeper Mitchell Matthews recorded his second shutout of the season.
Benton improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in district.
Mateo Martinez and Luis Martinez scored Bossier’s goals in the Bearkats’ district opener against North DeSoto. Mateo Martinez also had an assist.
Freshmen goalkeeper Tim Martinez recorded his first shutout. Bossier coach Hunter Pipes praised Oscar Telles for his defensive efforts.
“It was an ugly game with the rain and lightning. but we just slugged it out and won it,” Pipes said.
At Cargill, Drew Webb scored Parkway’s lone goal in the loss to Caddo Magnet. The Panthers fell to 1-3-1 overall
Libbi Lange scored two goals to lead the Haughton girls (1-3, 1-1).
Sydney Post and Karla Poe scored one goal each. Coach Russell Melton said Sierra Melnick had a good game defensively.
Goalkeeper Jeta Banks recorded the shutout.
Haughton won the junior varsity game 8-2. Taylor Breed hat a hat trick. Makaylin Lewis, Post, Lange, Hannah Logan and Miranda Hernandez scored one goal apiece.
