BPCC SUFFERS FIRST LOSS OF SEASON
The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers suffered their first loss of the season, 72-46, to Lee College in a Region XIV basketball opener Tuesday in Baytown, Texas.
BPCC hosts the BPCC Classic today and Saturday. Today, Southern-Shreveport faces El Centro College at 5 p.m., and BPCC plays the Northwestern State JV at 7. Saturday, the NSU JV plays Southern-Shreveport at 2 and BPCC faces El Centro at 4.
EX-BOSSIER STAR WEST SCORES 14 IN LOSS TO LSU
BATON ROUGE — Northwestern State freshman guard Jalan West, a former Bossier star, scored 14 points in the Demons’ 102-95 loss to LSU Tuesday.
West was 3-of-9 from the floor and hit all six of his free throw attempts. He also had six rebounds, two assists and three steals.
NSU cut a 21-point LSU lead down to four in the final two minutes. LSU (3-0) sank 10 of its final 12 free throws in the last 1:31 after making only 19 of its first 39.
Senior James Hulbin scored a career-high 29 points while junior college transfer DeQuan Hicks rang up 28 for the Demons (3-1). Shavon Coleman led LSU with 22, Anthony Hickey scored 21 and Charles Carmouche posted 19.
LSU, TECH CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASONS
The LSU Tigers and Louisiana Tech Bulldogs close out their football regular seasons this weekend.
The Tigers (9-2) face Arkansas (4-7) at 1:30 p.m. today in Fayetteville, Ark. The game will be broadcast by CBS. Tech (9-2) plays San Jose State (9-2) at 9:30 p.m. Saturday in San Jose, Calif., on ESPN2.
AIRLINE GIRLS SOCCER TEAM NOTCHES TWO WINS
The Airline girls soccer team defeated Benton 6-0 earlier this week and opened District 1-I play last week with a 6-0 victory over Southwood.
Rebecca Shumate had a hat trick against Benton. Abby Booker, Madi Walter and Melissa Beard scored one goal apiece.
Walter had two goals against Southwood. Mandy Sparkman, Courtney Hilburn and Jordan Travis all scored one.
In JV games, Airline defeated Benton 4-0 and Southwood 6-0.
Ashley Hein scored two goals, and Sam Maiette and Amina Yurdagul had one each against Benton.
Kendall Tilley scored two goals against Southwood. Ashley Hein, Amina Yurdagul, Kaitlyn Spearman and Kia Garner all scored one.
LSUS MEN DEFEAT BELHAVEN IN OT
The LSU Shreveport Pilots men's basketball team opened up at The Dock on Tuesday night to a loud and rowdy crowd helping the Pilots to a 92-87 overtime win over the visiting Belhaven Blazers giving head coach Kyle Blankenship his first win at a place he used to play and coach as an assistant.
LSUS (2-1) shot 50-percent on a night where all five starters finished in double figures. Rodney Milum led all scorers with 21 points. He hit three 3-pointers and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line.
The forwards were just as dominating as Milum with Isaac Reid draining 19 points with eight rebounds while the dependable Rydell Harris with his third double of the season in as many games with 18 points and 12 boards. Aaron Jones tossed in 20 while Mark Politte finished with a dozen.
