Books for Children project

E-mail Print PDF

Sometimes things happen that you do not expect.  Such is the case with the Books for Children project the library hosts each year at the Bossier Central Library.  Books for Children provides, new books as gifts for the children living in the Barksdale Annex neighborhood in Bossier City. However, this year the entire list was chosen by a local group as a Christmas project.

Fortunately, we have a back-up plan.  The Central Library will be a designated drop-off site for Toys for Tots this year.  On Thursday, November 29, from 3—5PM, Cumulus Radio will do a live remote broadcast from the library to collect toys.  A United States Marine volunteer will be on hand as a representative for this project.

The Christmas tree is already up and decorated in the foyer of the Central Library.  Toys for Tots pledge slips are hanging on the tree.  Stop by, take a slip and make a pledge.  If you cannot bring toys to the library on November 29, you may drop them off at the library and we will turn them in for you.

Make a note:

  • Thanksgiving Holiday closure dates:  Thursday and Friday, Nov. 22 and 23.
  • Book Match, a book discussion group for teens ages 13-18, begins on Tuesday, Nov. 20 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the History Center meeting room. Bossier Central Teen coordinator Tonya Oswalt will be on hand to facilitate the discussions.
  • Saturday, Dec.1, at 11 a.m., A “Fancy Nancy” Tea Party will be held at the Bossier Central Children’s Library.  Children ages 5-7 years and a parent or guardian can join in the fun with stories, games, and plenty of other activities.  Dress your best!  There are only 20 spots available so sign up early in Children’s Services or by calling Jessica.
  • Thursday, Dec. 13, the Bossier Central Book Club meets from 6-7 p.m., in the conference room.  The book selection is “Fire in the Blood” by Irene Nemorvsky.  It is a story of passion and betrayal.  Refreshments will be served.  Call Anne for more details.
