The Elm Grove Lady Eagles clinched a share of the Bossier Parish middle school girls seventh-grade basketball title with a 24-18 victory over the Haughton Lady Bucs Monday at Haughton.
The Lady Eagles improved to 9-0 with one game remaining against second-place Cope.
Cope improved to 8-1 with a 27-12 victory over Benton at Cope. The Lady Cougars can earn a share of the championship with a victory over Elm Grove in the season-finale Thursday at Elm Grove.
In the other seventh-grade game Monday, Rusheon defeated Greenacres 29-14 at Rusheon.
In eighth-grade games, Cope downed Benton 28-20, Elm Grove defeated Haughton 34-26 and Rusheon dropped Greenacres 32-24.
Cope, which has already clinched the district championship, can wrap up a perfect district season with a victory over Elm Grove Thursday.
At Cope, Chloe Walker scored 14 points to lead the Lady Cougars seventh-graders to the win.
Mackenzie McEntee and Amiya Small scored three points each to lead Benton. Malorie Gill, Mackenzie Terhune and Kaitlyn Bratten combined for six. Coach MaryJo Duddy said Brittney McLelland contributed “good defense and rebounding."
Keke Marshall led the Cope eighth-graders with 10 points. Krystal Grannum added eight and Hannah Wooten had seven.
Kichauna West led Benton with nine points. KellyAnna Ross, Lynnse Terhune and Sarah Koeppen combined for nine.
Duddy said Rebecca Grantham and Morgan Hearn “played strong defense and rebounded well.” She also cited guards Sarah Chenevert and Hallie Saintignam for their defensive pressure.
At Haughton, Meagan Laboy scored 10 points and Dionisha Wilson added eight to lead the Lady Eagles seventh-graders to the win.
Champagne Dennis and Meagan Staton combined for 10 points to lead the Lady Bucs, who scored 12 of their points in the fourth quarter.
Mackenzie Kleinpeter paced the Elm Grove eighth-graders with 10 points. Jasmine Douglas scored nine and Madelyn Elliott chipped in with eight.
At Rusheon, Destiny Thomas led the Lady Rams seventh-graders to the victory with 19 points.
Shacoria Jones, Chris-hawna Jones and Catrina Darby combined for nine.
Latrina Morris topped the Rusheon eighth-graders with nine points. Brianna West, Quienna White, Artisha Reney and Davina Keith combined for 20.
