‘Let’s Jump into Art’ student show at Central Library

E-mail Print PDF

After the CAC (Creative Art Connection) takes down their show this week at the Bossier Central Library, it will be replaced with the works of local art students taught by award winning artist Kathleen Pate.  The theme is “Let’s Jump into Art.”  The students will display their works from Saturday, November 10 through Saturday, December 8th.

This is an exciting time for these budding artists.  They put in many hours preparing for their debut. The exhibit will include paintings in oil, acrylic, and water color as well as sculptures.  Stop by to see the wonderful things they have created.

The Books for Children Christmas tree will be in the foyer of the Central Library next week.  This is the sixth year we have sponsored this program for the children living in the Barksdale Annex neighborhood in Bossier City.   The kids, ages 5—12, that attend one of the Friendship Houses will receive a new book for Christmas.

If you would like to participate, stop by and pick a slip from the Christmas tree that has a child’s name, age, gender, and their book request.  Please purchase new books, wrap and return them by Friday, December 7th.  I will deliver the books to the Friendship House on Monday, December 10, so they will have them in time for Christmas.  Contact me for more information at the Central Library at (318) 746-1693 or by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Make a note:

  • Thursday, Nov. 8, from 6-7 p.m., the Bossier Central Book Club will be discussing Michael Connelly’s “The Brass Verdict” in the conference room.  You need not have read the book to join the group.  There will be refreshments and lively discussions for all to enjoy.  For more details contact Anne Madison at the Central Library.
  • Wednesday, Nov.14 at 2 p.m., the Beaker Kids Club for ages 8-12 will meet in the Children’s Library at Bossier Central.  Register in advance due to limited space.  Call Jessica or stop by the Central Library to sign up.
  • “Grateful for our Patrons” fine-free period will be during the weeks of November 1-18.  All late charges will be forgiven in exchange for non-perishable goods donated to the Food Bank of NW Louisiana.  Please be aware fines on laptops are not included.  Barrels will be located at all branches to collect the goods.
  • Book Match is a book discussion group for teens ages 13-18, which begins on Tuesday, Nov. 20 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the History Center meeting room.  On the third Tuesday of each month teens can get together to find books that interest them, take part in a book discussion, enjoy snacks, and have a good time.  Teen coordinator Tonya Oswalt will be on hand to facilitate the discussions.
