Airline aims for share of 1-5A title

E-mail Print PDF

It’s rare for a Bossier Parish high school football team to play on a Thursday night.

This Thursday night, there will be two games involving parish teams.

The Airline Vikings (7-1, 3-0) can clinch a share of the District 1-5A championship with a victory over the Southwood Cowboys (1-6, 0-3), who have lost six straight.

If Airline wins, and Byrd defeats Captain Shreve Friday night, the Vikings will have a one-game lead over the Yellow Jackets. Byrd and Airline meet in the regular-season finale a week from Friday.

The Parkway Panthers (7-1, 2-1 District 1-5A) and the Haughton Buccaneers (6-2, 1-2) are playing Thursday night at Preston Crownover Stadium to accommodate television. The game will be broadcast across the state on Cox Sports Television as the New Orleans Saints/LHSAA High School Football Game of the Week.

Parkway will be trying to keep its hopes for a share of the district championship alive. Also, both teams will be looking to increase their power ratings with the playoffs starting two weeks from Friday.

Parkway is coming off its first loss of the season, 31-13 against Airline.

Haughton ended a two-game slide with a 27-3 victory over Captain Shreve last week.
