BOSSIER CITY - Funeral services for Cebern "Joe" Obrey Thornton will be held on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at The Pentecostals of Bossier City Church at 2833 Viking Drive, Bossier City, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Jerry Dean, Pastor, and grandsons, Rev. Dewaine Parker, Rev. Nathan Thornton and Rev. Donovan Hill. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery, with full military honors. The family will be receiving friends at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton, LA on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Mr. Thornton was a long time resident of Blanchard, LA and passed away at NW LA Veterans Home on Tuesday, October 9, 2012. He was a devoted father, husband, friend, and precious saint of God. He fought a good fight, he kept the faith, and he finished his course.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Laverne Thornton; two brothers, Charlie and Verlon Thornton; and grandson, Donald Ray Parker.
Mr. Thornton is survived by his daughters, Linda Parker and husband Bill of Shreveport, LA and Brenda Inge of Bossier city, LA; and son, Joe Thornton of Bossier City, LA. He is also survived by four sisters.
He was blessed with 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great- grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Parker, Caleb Hill, II, Caleb Stock, Alexander Hill, Logan Murphy and Taylor Murphy.
