BENTON - Services for John Wesley Shirley, Jr., 79, will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Rose-Neath's Bossier Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. John Fream, pastor of Cypress Baptist Church, and Rev. Tommy Patton of Cypress Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery with U.S. Air Force Honors. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home.
Mr. Shirley was born July 4, 1933 in Hope AR and died September 30, 2012 at Grace Home in Shreveport, LA. He served proudly in the U.S. Air Force and served three overseas assignments in Puerto Rico, Spain and Thailand. He was always a hard worker and while working a second job in Puerto Rico at the NCO Club, he saved enough money for a down payment on his first house. After retiring from the Air Force in 1977 he opened his own business, John Shirley Insulation Co., which today is owned by his two sons. John and his company always supported St. Jude by providing insulation for the St. Jude Dream Home. He was a member of Cypress Baptist Church, very active in the LA Home Builders and the Bossier City Optimist Club. He was a member of Shriners International, a 32nd Degree Mason, Disabled American Veterans, the Scottish Rite, TREA (the retired enlisted association) and an auxiliary officer for the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Department.
His parents, John Wesley, Sr. and Mary Shirley, sister, Ollene Edmonds and son, Stacey McCalister preceded John in death.
He is survived by his wife, Angie Shirley; sons, John Shirley and wife Erin, Randy Shirley and wife Lisa, David Terral and wife Mona; daughters, Sheryl Burnett and husband Rickie, Madyline Walker; grandchildren, David and Joshua Shirley, Corey Tuminello and wife Haley, Brooke Tuminello, Hannah, Hilary and Amy Shirley, Angie Lalson and husband Terry, Tahlor Walker and Kyle and Heather Terral; great grandchildren, Taylor Shirley, Chase Burnett, Kaitlyn, Hunter and Cutter Wilson and numerous nieces nephews and cousins.
Honoring John as pallbearers will be Todd Pickett, Rodney Bauman, Rodney Bryant, Charlie Sojourner, Buck Sowell and Jason McGahee. Honorary pallbearers will be M.D. Ray and Harold Denham.
The family would like to thank WK Bossier Health Center 4th floor step-down, Promise Hospital of Bossier and Grace Home.
