Benton won the boys’ division and finished second in the girls’ in the E.D. White Invitational cross country meet Wednesday in Thibodaux. It was the first meet of the season for the Tigers and Lady Tigers. The Benton boys scored 46 points to 75 for runner-up E.D. White. The two-time defending Class 4A state champion Benton girls almost made it a sweep but came up two points short of champion E.D. White, 56-58. E.D. White is the defending Class 3A state boys and girls champion. Benton’s Katie McKay was the runner-up in the girls’ division with a time of 19:37. Benton’s Drake Heinz finished third in the boys’ division in 16:03.
