Plain Dealing gearing up for event Plans and preparations are underway for the second annual Christmas in Plain Dealing celebration, which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 10 a.m.
It will be an old fashioned, down-home Christmas experience, complete with entertainment, food, a cake walk, bake sale, arts and crafts, bazaar, tours of historic homes, quilt show and a visit from Santa Claus at the end of the day.
Local schools and the Boy Scout troop will serve up lunches of hamburgers and hot dogs, meat pies and fried fish plates. In addition, stores downtown will be offering holiday gift sales, refreshments and door prizes. A highlight of the celebration this year will be a concert by soprano Martha Kostiuk Hollier at First Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m., with a reception to follow in the church fellowship hall.
Hollier, formerly a leading artist with the Bolshoi Opera in Moscow, now resides on Ida, Louisiana. Her repertoire included leading roles in many major operatic works, and she is in demand as a concert artist all over the world.
The Town of Plain Dealing is deeply honored to present this renowned artist in a concert that is open to the public free of charge.
Another special event this year is the dedication of the town’s new Christmas lights, which were selected to reflect the nostalgic style of the multicolored bulbs that crisscrossed the streets in Christmases of old. In order to purchase these and additional lights, Plain Dealing’s Caregivers Committee is selling a 2007 calendar featuring the town’s historic homes. The calendars will be on sale in all the stores during the day.
The light switch will be thrown at 6:30 p.m. followed by the appearance of Santa Claus, which kick off the Christmas season. Views: 1846
