Marie Carter SlackFuneral services for Mrs. Marie Carter Slack, 85, of Springhill, will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Bailey Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. David Harrell officiating.  Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Springhill.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. at Bailey Mortuary.

Mrs. Slack, a lifelong resident of this area, died Sunday, December 17, in Springhill.  She was a member of Central Baptist Church, a homemaker and a retired school teacher.  She was a graduate of Louisiana Tech where she received her Bachelors Degree and received her Masters Degree at Northwestern University.  She began her teaching career in 1940 in Sarepta and taught 38 years as a fifth grade teacher in the Springhill school system.  She and her husband, Jeral, had traveled extensively and enjoyed going to antique and flea markets and flying with her husband and the Angels Seven Flying Club.

She is preceded in death by a son, Jeral Carter “Butch” Slack, on June 4, 2006 and her parents, Milton and B. Pate Carter.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Jeral Lee Slack; daughter, Jerry S. Horner and husband David, of Shreveport; son, Richard Slack and wife Cristy of Dallas, Texas; sister, Ruby Lois Moore of Monroe; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Slack Horner of Shreveport.

Ralph Malone will serve as pallbearer.
