The following appeared in the New Orleans Times-Picayune: Nine-year-old Savannah Scharfenstein did something Sunday that most children her age do: She ran toward the fun.
In this case, fun was a trailer being pulled by a pickup truck in a Slidell, La. Christmas parade. Her church's basketball team had a display on that trailer, and Savannah ran toward it and attempted to climb aboard. A tire ran over her foot, pulled her down to the ground and the weight of the trailer crushed her.
On Tuesday Savannah's parents decided to take her off life support and donate her organs.
In light of this tragedy, and the upcoming Bossier Christmas Parade, we ask all parents to keep their children safely beside them during the event.
Parades are a fun time for families — and our’s should be no different.
We just don’t want to see a story like this one in our next edition. Views: 2810
