BPCC BASEBALL TEAM SWEEPS JOHNSON COUNTY
The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers defeated Johnson County 6-0 Saturday to complete a four-game home sweep.
The Cavs swept a doubleheader Friday 7-1 and 4-2 after defeating Johnson County 6-3 in the series opener Thursday.
Former Airline standout Cole Hesson allowed just one hit in five innings Saturday. He struck out five. Four Cavs pitched one inning each, allowing just one hit.
Former Benton star Ross Moore went 2-for-4 with a double. Airline product Chase Daughdrill also went 2-for-4. Zac Howell had two RBIS.
Jacob Stockton went 2-for-3 with a double in the 4-2 victory Friday. Daughdrill and Robert Staten had two hits each. Former Airline standout Lance Jones drove in a run. Winning pitcher Ethan Hammond allowed just three hits in six innings.
Jones went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and two RBIs in the 7-1 win. Stockton had two triples and three RBIs. Staten and Francisco Rodriguez had two hits each. Jared Exline pitched a seven-inning two-hitter with five strikeouts.
BPCC (7-2) returns to action Tuesday with a single-game at Meredian (Miss.) CC followed by a doubleheader Wednesday.
PARISH BOWLERS FARE WELL IN BATON ROUGE TOURNAMENT
Haughton finished 10th and Bossier 11th in the annual Coca-Cola Tournament held in Baton Rouge over the weekend.
Haughton, fielding a co-ed team, scored 682 in the tournament’s baker format. Bossier scored 640 with Adam McDaniel, Myra Martinez and Stephan Shea leading the way.
PERRY SCORES 14 IN TECHSTERS’ LOSS
SAN MARCOS, Texas —Freshman guard Lulu Perry, a former Benton star, scored 14 points in the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters’ 68-63 loss to Texas State Saturday.
Kelia Shelton led the Techsters (11-12, 7-5) with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
NORTHWESTERN STATE MEN ROUT CENTRAL ARKANSAS
NATCHITOCHES — Brison White matched his career high with 20 points and snatched a career-best six steals Saturday as Northwestern State piled up 18 steals and cruised by visiting Central Arkansas 93-73 for the Demons' sixth straight Southland Conference basketball victory.
Gary Stewart added 15 points, Gary Roberson 14, Shamir Davis 13 and DeQuan Hicks 10 as the Demons scored 36 points off 25 UCA turnovers. Northwestern (16-6 overall, 10-2 in the Southland) shot 49 percent from the floor.
Former Bossier standout Jalan West led the Demons with five assists.
TECH MEN EXTEND WIN STREAK TO 13
RUSTON — Raheem Appleby scored 21 points as Louisiana Tech defeated Texas State 84-69 Saturday night in the Thomas Assembly Center, extending its win streak to 13 games.
Tech (21-3) had two other players score in double figures. Alex Hamilton had 15 points, while Isaiah Massey added 10. Chris Anderson scored eight points, grabbed 13 rebounds, blocked three shots and had three steals.
Texas State had four players score in double digits, led by Joel Wright with 13.
