Basketball: Bossier clinches share of District 1-3A boys title

The Bossier Bearkats clinched a share of the District 1-3A boys basketball title with a 68-31 rout of Loyola Tuesday night at Loyola.

Bossier (26-3, 5-0), ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 3A, has a one-game lead over Green Oaks with one to play. The Bearkats and the Giants face off Friday night at Green Oaks.

Breon Morris led four players in double figures with 15 points. Rashard Owens added 12 and Tevin Robertson had 11.

It was Bossier’s 13th straight victory.

Elsewhere, Louisiana New Tech at Plain Dealing wrapped up its second straight District 1-1A title with a 71-57 home victory over Logansport.

Kaino Long led the Lions (10-10, 5-0) with 21 points and seven assists. Cardarrious Ray scored 17 points, and Deaumante Johnson had 12.

In District 1-5A, host Airline (7-16, 3-5) led Captain Shreve by nine in the third quarter, but the Gators charged back for a 70-61 victory to clinch a share of the district title.

Demetrius Early led Airline with 16 points. Andrew Latson chipped in with 11, and Hayden Hildebrand had 10.

At Parkway, Brodrick Jefferson scored 27 points, including 18 in the fourth quarter, to lead the Panthers to an 81-71 victory over Haughton.

Freshman Keondre Wudtee chipped in with 14 points for the Panthers (7-15, 2-6). Rob Harper added 11 and Brandon Harris 10.

Haughton’s Nakia Deveraux led all scorers with 35 points. Tyler Grigsby added 17 for the Bucs (7-17, 1-7)

Girls

The Bossier Lady Kats fell to the Loyola Flyers 52-41 in a battle for the District 1-3A lead at Loyola.parkwaygirls2

Deneira McGlothan scored 13 points and Bree Williams 10 to lead Bossier (14-13, 3-2).

The Lady Kats led by eight after the first quarter but shot just 17 percent (6 of 35) from the field the rest of the way.

In District 1-5A, Parkway rallied from an eight-point deficit in the third quarter to defeat Haughton 46-43.

Halle Washington led the Lady Panthers (4-19, 3-5) with 16 points.

Mikayla Barber topped Haughton (17-10, 3-5) with 19 points. Amber Brooks added 11, and Brittany Robinett had 10.

At Airline, the Lady Vikings fell to Captain Shreve 55-41.

Nikki Bryant paced Airline (11-16, 3-5) with 14 points, and Jasmyn Carswell had eight.

With two games left in the season, Airline and Haughton are on the bubble for wild-card playoff spots. Going into Tuesday’s action Haughton had a power rating of 29 and Airline had a 33. They will have to have a 32 or better to make the playoffs.

At Benton, the Lady Tigers remained in the hunt for the District 1-4A championship with a 64-29 victory over Northwood.

Megan Fream led Benton (15-8, 5-2)  with 17 points. Gabby Jackson added 16 and Madi Sessions had 15.

Kyana Manning, Benton’s lone senior, hit a basket on Senior Night.

Benton, which plays at Fair Park tonight, is one game behind district leader Huntington in the loss column.

In District 1-1A, Dennisha Chambers scored 38 points to lead host Louisiana New Tech at Plain Dealing past Logansport 58-34.

Deaspria Harris added 12 points for the Lady Lions (12-8, 5-0), who have wrapped up the district title.
