AIRLINE MAINTAINS DISTRICT 1, DIVISION I SOCCER LEAD
Chris Galvan scored two goals and Airline defeated Captain Shreve 2-1 last week to stay atop the District 1, Division I boys soccer standings.
Will Coyer had an assist and Collin Jimes made a key second half save.
The Vikings improved to 22-2 overall and 8-1 in district with three games to play. Caddo Magnet is second at 6-1.
Airline plays Parkway at 6 p.m. tonight at Tinsley Park. The Panthers, who are tied for third at 6-3, handed Caddo Magnet its only district loss last week. Airline (5-4 district) and Parkway (4-3) also play a girls game at 6.
In non-district games tonight, Haughton travels to Minden for boys and girls games, and Bossier faces Benton in a girls game at Tinsley.
BPCC FALLS TO JACKSONVILLE
The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers fell to Jacksonville 82-64 in a Region 14 men’s basketball game Saturday afternoon at BPCC.
Last Wednesday, the Cavs returned from the long holiday break and suffered a 92-74 road loss to Region 14 south leader Angelina College.
Lyndale James, a former Bossier High standout, led the Cavs Saturday with 18 points with 12 of those coming in the first half. Ty’Rell Winn was the only other Cav in double figures with 11.
Trayvion Johnson led BPCC against Angelina with 20 points. Justin Harris and Winn had 11 each. Dimitri Smith and James had 10 apiece. James and Smith also had eight rebounds each.
BPCC dropped to 7-8 overall and 1-6 in conference play. The Cavs return to action Wednesday against Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas.
LSU MEN FALL TO 0-2 IN SEC WITH LOSS TO FLORIDA
The LSU Tigers dropped to 0-2 in SEC play with a 74-52 loss to Florida Saturday afternoon at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
Anthony Hickey led LSU (9-4) with 15 points and Shavon Coleman had 11. Guard Kenny Boynton led four Florida players in double figures with 20 points as the Gators improved to 12-2 and 2-0.
DEMONS HIT CENTURY MARK IN WIN OVER CENTRAL ARKANSAS
CONWAY, Ark.— With career scoring highs from junior guard Gary Stewart and sophomore center Marvin Frazier, including consecutive 3-pointers by Stewart on three straight second-half possessions, Northwestern State outran Central Arkansas 100-88 Saturday afternoon in Southland Conference men’s basketball.
NSU freshman Jalan West, a former Bossier star, had seven points and six assists in 28 minutes.
The Demons (10-5 overall, 4-1 in the Southland) built a 34-14 lead and weathered repeated rallies by the Bears (5-9, 0-4) in a matchup of the league’s top two offenses and two of the country’s top 30 scoring teams (NSU fifth, UCA 27th).
Ending a demanding stretch of seven games in 14 days, Northwestern won for the fifth time in that span and took its seventh victory in nine tries. The Demons drained 55 percent (12-22) of their 3-pointers, with Stewart making 5 of 8 while posting 19 points.
He was one of six double-figure scorers and one of six Demons to make a 3-pointer. James Hulbin scored 17 points, while Gary Roberson added 13, Shamir Davis 12, Frazier 11 and DeQuan Hicks 10.
