BPCC FALLS TO LAMAR STATE

The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers lost to Lamar State College 76-67 in a Region XIV game Saturday in Port Arthur, Texas.

The Cavs dropped to 6-4 overall and 1-4 in league play. BPCC doesn’t play again until this Saturday when the Cavs host Southern-Shreveport at 4 p.m.

RUTGERS TOO MUCH FOR TECHSTERS

NEW YORK — For the second straight game, Louisiana Tech struggled to shoot the basketball as the Lady Techsters fell 73-46 to Rutgers Sunday morning at Madison Square Garden as part of the 2012 Maggie Dixon Classic.

One game after shooting only 17 percent in its loss at Texas A&M Tuesday, head coach Teresa Weatherspoon’s team hit only 13-of-52 field goals against the Scarlet Knights as Rutgers pulled away down the stretch for the win.

Freshman guard Lulu Perry, a former Benton standout, struggled like the rest of her team. She was 1 of 9 from the field, including 0 of 5 from 3-point range, and finished with three points. Former Bossier star Jasmine Bryant also scored just three points.

TECH MEN DEFEAT SOUTHERN MISS

RUSTON — Kenyon McNeail came off the bench to score a season-high 18 points to lead Louisiana Tech to a 65-55 victory over Southern Miss on Saturday night in the Thomas Assembly Center.

The Tech bench scored 32 of the teams 65 points. J.L. Lewis recorded a season-high in points and rebounds with eight and four, respectively. Kenneth Smith also tied a Louisiana Tech record with seven steals on the night.

AIRLINE PRODUCT MCCOY HELPS LSUS WOMEN WIN

Former Airline standout Katie McCoy scored 10 points to help the No. 17 LSUS Lady Pilots (8-1) pick up their fifth straight win 86-54 over the Centenary Ladies on Friday at LSUS.

TECH FORMS FOOTBALL COACH SEARCH COMMITTEE

RUSTON — Following the resignation of Sonny Dykes as Louisiana Tech’s head football coach last week, Louisiana Tech President Dan Reneau has assembled a search committee to immediately begin the process of identifying and interviewing potential candidates to fill the head coach position and continue moving the Louisiana Tech football program forward.

The search committee will be chaired by Dr. Les Guice, Louisiana Tech’s president-elect, and current executive vice president and vice president for research and development.

According to a school press release, Guice’s leadership will ensure the process involves a university-wide strategic focus and that decisions made by the committee are in the best interest of the growth and stability of the entire institution. The diversity in composition of the committee will ensure representation from across the campus.
