The Benton Lady Tigers knocked off defending District 1, Division II champion Calvary 3-2 in girls high school soccer action Thursday night at Tinsley Park.
Freshman Kloee Davis scored what proved to be the winning goal on an assist from Shelby Plunkett about halfway through the second half.
Plunkett also scored the Lady Tigers’ first goal. Freshman Haley Croft gave Benton a 2-1 lead about 10 minutes into the second half before the Lady Cavs tied it on a free kick.
“Our defenders just played outstanding tonight,” Benton coach Kyle Cox said.
The Lady Tigers improved to 4-2-1 overall and 2-0 in district. Calvary dropped to 3-2 and 3-1.
Elsewhere Thursday, the Airline girls defeated Haughton in a District 1-I game at Tinsley.
Madi Walter and Rebecca Shumate scored two goals each for the Lady Vikings (6-7, 3-2).
Diana Cruz, Alison Lockhart, Melissa Beard, Abby Booker, Mandy Sparkman and Jordan Travis scored one goal apiece.
Booker, Cruz, Walter and Shumate all had assists.
The Haughton girls defeated Woodlawn 6-0 earlier in the week.
Libbi Lange scored two goals. Hannah Logan, Morgan Cayton, Miranda Hernandez and Lauren Bajat scored one apiece. Ashley Leitch had two saves.
Haughton and Airline tied 1-1 in a JV game Thursday. Tyler Breed scored the Lady Bucs’ goal, and Kendall Tilley scored for Airline.
Wednesday, Airline (14-1, 4-0) defeated Haughton 8-0 in a District 1-I boys game.
Matt Hanisee and Patrick Laurent both had hat tricks. Bryan Medrino and Jacob Maniero scored one goal each.
Chris Galvin and Frank Ortiz had two assists each. Hanisee, Laurent, Will Coyer and Abdullah Rayyan had one apiece.
