Elm Grove wins 7th-grade middle school girls basketball title

The Elm Grove Lady Eagles won the outright Bossier Parish middle school girls basketball seventh-grade district title Thursday with a 26-23 home victory over Cope.
Elm Grove finished the district season 10-0. Cope finished second at 8-2.
The Lady Eagles eighth-grade team prevented district champion Cope from running the table with a 28-25 victory. Cope finished 9-1 in district play. Elm Grove and Rusheon finished tied for second at 7-3.
Meagan Laboy led the Elm Grove seventh-graders with 14 points. Dionisha Wilson and Akirya Jefferson combined for eight.
Chloe Walker topped Cope with 11 points. Peyton Brown and Jazmyne Dawson combined for eight.
Jasmine Douglas led the Elm Grove eighth-graders with eight points. Madelyn Elliott and Mackenzie Kleinpeter combined for nine.
Krystal Grannum and Mary Claire Rock paced Cope with seven points each. Hannah Wooten added six.
In other season-finales Thursday, Benton swept Greenacres and Rusheon swept Haughton.
Benton pulled out a narrow 26-25 victory in the seventh-grade game, while the eighth-graders won 20-9.
Rusheon won the seventh-grade game 28-19 and the eighth-grade game 41-31.
At Greenacres, Mack-enzie McEntee poured in 19 points to lead the Benton seventh-graders. Angel Martin, Kaitlyn Bratten and Mackenzie Terhune combined for seven.
Coach MaryJo Duddy said Malorie Gill played “excellent defense” and Amiya Small and Brittney McLelland were strong on the boards.
Camila Rodriguez, who had an outstanding season for Greenacres, led her team with 16 points. Antavia Holmes, Shelby English and Brianna Jacobs combined for seven.
Kichauna West topped the Benton eighth-graders with 13 points. KellyAnna Ross, Sarah Chenevert and Rebecca Grantham combined for seven. Duddy said Morgan Hearn and Sarah Koeppen rebounded well and Lynnse Terhune played outstanding defense despite an injury.
Tia Lowe led Greenacres with seven.
At Haughton, Chrishawna Jones and Destiny Thomas combined for 16 points to lead the Rusheon seventh-graders. Cartina Darby, Kalisha Williams, Cecila Cruz and Shacoria Jones combined for 10.
Champagne Dennis led Haughton with seven points, and Keeana Barber had four.
Nyakura Marzett had a big game for the Rusheon eighth-graders, scoring 23 points. Quianna White added six, and Latrina Morris, Brianna West and Lexia Monroe  combined for nine.
