E-mail Print PDF

The Benton boys won the Class 4A cross country state championship Tuesday at Northwestern State University.

Benton scored 56 points to 70 for runner-up Archbishop Shaw. Low score in cross country wins. It is the first boys cross country state championship in school history. Benton's Drake Heinz, Alex Whittington and Brandon Lewis finished 3-4-5. The Benton girls, who won the last two 4A titles, finished third.

The Parkway girls finished third in Class 5A, one point out of a tie for second place. Parkway junior Alison Ringle finished second in the individual competition, the best finish by a Bossier Parish athlete. Parkway's Hayden Kingfisher finished fifth in the boys' division. The Parkway boys finished sixth for the second straight year.
