PLAIN DEALING 9-10 YOUTH TEAM REMAINS UNDEFEATED

Plain Dealing’s 9-10 year-old team remained undefeated in Northwest Louisiana Youth Football League play with a 20-0 victory over North Webster in Vivian last Saturday.

Darrien Perry returned a interception for a touchdown on the game’s first play. He also had a 23-yard touchdown catch and eight tackles. Kenneth W. Gay II ran 17 yards for a TD and scored two conversions. He had 61 yards rushing, 52 passing and nine tackles. Artavious Washington had six tackles, and Ardravious Washington had five. Tykeem Cook had 36 yards rushing and four tackles. Plain Dealing improved to 5-0.

Flag — North Webster 13, Plain Dealing 12: Tyrese Kimble scored a TD, had 71 yards rushing and pulled six flags. Christian Moore had 44 yards rushing, scored a touchdown and pulled six flags. Plain Dealing is 3-2.

7-8 — North Webster 13, Plain Dealing 0: CeDarious Johnson had 48 yards rushing and seven tackles. Duranczyk Newton had 10 tackles, and Braedan Sterling had five. Plain Dealing is 2-2-1

11-12 — Plain Dealing 6, North Webster 6: JaKaleb McGee scored a TD. He also had 76 yards rushing and four tackles. Arman Coatley five tackles, and David Lewis had four. Plain Dealing is 0-4-1.

NSU’S HARVEY LIKELY OUT FOR SEASON WITH KNEE INJURY

NATCHITOCHES — A knee injury suffered last Saturday at Southeastern Louisiana has likely ended the remarkable career of record-setting Northwestern State standout Phillip Harvey, the 11th-most prolific all-purpose yardage producer in the FCS ranks this season and one of the top kick returners in Southland Conference history.

Head athletic trainer Jason Drury said a severe sprain of the left knee sustained on a tackle on a third-quarter kickoff means Harvey, a senior, will “very likely miss” the last four games of the regular season, beginning with next Saturday’s homecoming battle with Nicholls State in Turpin Stadium. NSU (3-4) has an open date this weekend.

Harvey ranks fourth, just five yards shy of third place, in Southland Conference history in career kickoff return yardage with 2,071 yards on 88 returns, a career 23.5 average that includes touchdowns of 99 and 97 yards. He shattered NSU’s 23-year-old career kickoff return record by nearly 400 yards.

He is the Demons’ leading receiver with 23 catches and 314 yards, including two touchdowns.

TECH LOOKS TO REBOUND AGAINST IDAHO SATURDAY

Last year, Louisiana Tech began a seven-game winning streak with a win over Idaho. Fast forward one year later and the Bulldogs are looking to do the same. Louisiana Tech (5-1, 0-0 Western Athletic) returns to Joe Aillet Stadium Saturday evening as the Bulldogs host Idaho (1-6, 1-1 WAC) at 6. Tech is coming off a 59-57 loss to Texas A&M in Shreveport.

LSU VISITS TEXAS A&M SATURDAY

The No. 6 ranked LSU Tigers (6-1, 2-1 SEC) face No. 20 Texas A&M (5-1, 2-1) in a key SEC Western Division battle at 11 a.m. Saturday in College Station, Texas. The game will be broadcast by ESPN.
