ATHENA Award winners named

athenaCherie-Ann Nathan, M.D., F.A.C.S., was named the Bossier ATHENA award recipient during Thursday's 22nd Annual Awards Luncheon.  Kacee Hargrave Kirschvink was the Shreveport ATHENA recipient.

The Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce and the Bossier Chamber of Commerce partner to honor two individuals with the prestigious ATHENA Award, who were chosen from a talented and diverse group of 14 individuals.

The ATHENA Award honors individuals who have attained and personify the highest level of professional excellence by showing creativity and initiative in their business or profession, have devoted time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community in a meaningful way, and have opened doors of leadership opportunities for women in order for them to achieve their full potential.

As the professor, Vice-Chairman and Director of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Cancer Research for LSU Health Science Center in Shreveport, Cherie-Ann Nathan has dedicated her life to cancer research of the head and neck.

Dr. Nathan is the first woman chair at LSU Health Science Center and one of four chairs in the country in the head and neck surgery.  She has published over 125 periodicals and publications throughout the country and has been recognized in numerous Who’s Who Publications for Women and Health/Research Professionals.

Kacee Hargrave Kirschvink currently serves as the spokesperson for the Southwestern Electric Program Company handling internal and external communications.  She also promotes and recruits supporters to join a coalition for affordable and reliable electricity.

Kacee Hargrave Kirschvink’s community service includes serving as District 21 Lieutenant Governor of Quota International, a 2011 Graduate of the Louisiana Association of Non-Profit Organization’s Community Leaders Program and a graduate of the 2011 Leadership Program with the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce.

The nominees for the awards from the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce were Brandy Evans, Romney Guy, Kacee Kirschvink, Loreli Lopez, Shelly Taylor, Dr. Kelly Pledger Weeks and Kendra Wheeler. From the Bossier Chamber of Commerce were Melinda Coyer, Kathy Melancon, Debbie Martin, Shelli Briery Murphy, Cherie-Ann Nathan, M.D., F.A.C.S., Suzanne H. Stinson and Sherri Talley.
