Zach Pierson rushed for more than 100 yards in the first half and scored three touchdowns as the Benton Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 34-14 victory over the Southwood Cowboys Thursday night at Independence Stadium.

Benton improved to 2-3, while Southwood dropped to 1-3.

The Benton defense turned in a dominating performance.  Southwood scored its only touchdown of the first half on a 48-yard pass play. The Cowboys got only two other first downs as Benton led 28-6. Alex Martin scored Benton's first touchdown of the game on a 6-yard run.

Jaret Gill returned an interception for the Tigers' only  touchdown in the second half. Southwood's final touchdown came on a 44-yard pass play in the fourth quarter when the game was out of reach.
