The Haughton Bucs improved to 4-0 with a 28-3 victory over West Ouachita Friday night, but head coach Rodney Guin was in no particular mood to celebrate after the game.
“It wasn't a good outing for us,” Guin said. “And you can cast that blame on me. I told the kids I didn’t do a good job of getting them ready to play. I let up on them a little this week. I've just got to do better with that.”
Haughton had the ball for only eight plays in the first half against West Ouachita (1-3) but still managed a 14-3 lead.
“It was hard to get the ball from them,” Guin said. “But the second half we shut them down completely. I don’t even know if they had a first down. And then we couldn't do anything on offense.”
The Bucs did get some big plays, though.
James David Almond completed only four passes but they went for 178 yards. Jermichael Bell caught two passes for 134 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown. Jerrod Craft returned a fumble 30 yards for a touchdown and scored on a 64-yard run.
Jarred Craft rushed for 102 yards on 10 carries, his fourth straight game of more than 100 yards. He also scored a touchdown.
Jarred Craft and Robert Kennon led the defense with eight tackles each. Mason Moreau had seven, and Josh Walker and KJ Patterson had six each. Bell had a fumble recovery.
